Nikita Lev releases 'Like I Care'

About Nikita Lev:

Nikita is a New York-bred multi-instrumentalist who has recently released her debut single “Elegance,” on February 27, 2023. In celebration of the song dropping, she also performed it live as part of the We Found New Music showcase at Hotel Ziggy in Hollywood, CA, on February 27th as well. Hinged with guitar, piano, and drums, the song showcases her rich, lower-register vocals that call to mind influences like Lana Del Rey and Phoebe Bridgers. Produced by artist, singer, songwriter, producer, and music director, Eric Scullin (Dysplay, RZA, Mark Needhman [The Killers]), the ambient track was recorded in Los Angeles in his home studio. “I’ve been working with Eric since November 2021 and it’s been really cool to see how my songs have expanded sonically. I’m in the process of learning more about production because I want to be able to have more creative license in that realm.” Nikita is poised to make a dent in music this year. Following her first single, she and her management company, JV Agency, will debut her next highly anticipated song, “Like I Care,” plus a few more fresh cuts over the course of the year.

About the song:

Nikita’s second single ‘Like I Care’ sets out to be honest and profound in a manner unlike other musicians her age. She emphasizes making music that is evocative and ambiguous, and confronts the complicated emotions that accompany letting go through the song. Nikita uses an element of longing to connect to all who recollect on their lives. This song also lyrically and harmonically exemplifies both the beauty in growing and moving on while being wistful about one’s prior relationships.

What do I think about the single:

If I were to compare the song with 'Elegance', this song is a bit more upbeat and is about the beauty of growing and moving on from a relationship. Adding on to that, ‘Elegance' is a slow ballad and is about the comparison between entering adulthood and the carelessness of being a free-spirited youth, while ‘Like I Care‘ is about being wistful about prioritizing a relationship.
